CANADA: Young people are mobilizing against the "dangers" of vaping.

In Canada, the Students Against Tobacco and Cannabis Awareness Group (Manitoba SWAT) wants to engage young people against the “dangers” of vaping. He wants to stop the e-cigarette fashion which has been developing among adolescents for some time.

YOUTH TREATS E-CIGARETTE LIKE A DRUG TO AVOID!

If adults cannot find the right words to talk about the “dangers” of vaping, some young people think they have the right lexicon. " I want other kids to see how bad it is and why we should not be vaping ", Explain Riley Farrell, 16, who recently joined the Manitoba SWAT group.

Riley, who started vaping at age 13, is adamant the industry is targeting young people. He also admits to having been attracted by the young image of the products or the dynamics around him. " On Instagram, we see people making smoke rings, towers with giant clouds. Children want to reproduce that ", he says.

In just three years, the teenager became addicted. Learning more about the health risks allowed her to break her habit. Today he wants to convey this message to other young people: “ If you're in there, you have to get out. And if you are not there yet, do not start. ". Using a PowerPoint presentation, Riley Farrell gave a presentation to Grade 10 kids at her school.

He explains the difference between products and their effects. It also mentions the risk of vasoconstriction when one regularly vaping, the blood vessels can be reduced and lead to heart problems. Riley Farrel is based on several studies, including one from the American Lung Association, which reports the danger of flavored liquids that can cause lung tissue inflammation.

A TOBACCO IN DECLINE, A VAPOTAGE IN FULL ESSORT!

Sydney Tuck is in grade 11 and also a member of the Manitoba SWAT. She hopes that if teens hear the message from their peers, they'll listen to it more. " Smoking is on the decline among young people, which is a good thing, but vaping is on the rise. I know I see kids in grade 7 with vapers "She says.

According to an American study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in 2018, the use of electronic cigarettes affected just over 20% of high school students, compared to 8% for cigarettes. Manitoba SWAT members have been offering anti-smoking presentations in schools for several years, but the organization recognizes the need to adapt their work to new realities by adding a component on vaping.

Riley Farrell believes that parents should also learn about these products and learn to track their use in their children. " If you enter your son's room and it does not smell like a perfume, but a fruity or floral scent, it should put you in your ear He concludes.
