For some time now, a real legal battle for patents concerning the e-cigarette has taken place. It concerns on the one hand Joyetech Gmbh and a few other e-cigarette companies and on the other Fontem Ventures, a subsidiary of Imperial Tobacco.
THE E-CIGARETTE INDUSTRY PUT BIG TOBACCO INTO THE MAT!
And the good news has arrived the 8 September at the European Patent Office (EPO) in Munich, Germany, Joyetech Gmbh and several other e-cigarette companies have won the battle with the revocation of the patent against the EP 2022349 patent held by Fontem Ventures.
Dating back to 2013, Fontem Ventures, a subsidiary of Imperial Tobacco, the fourth largest cigarette company in the world Imperial Tobacco had purchased the original patent for the e-cigarette owned by Hon Lik. And this is where Imperial Tobacco has based its copyright infringement actions.
AN IMPORTANT VICTORY FOR THE VAPE!
The outcome of this case has a significant influence on the development of the e-cigarette industry around the world. If Fontem Ventures had won this battle, it would have been able to bill each e-cigarette for the patent fees. For the tobacco industry to also control the e-cigarette industry would be devastating for the market and for vapers, fortunately this battle was won by Joyetech!
