After the city of Strasbourg which banned tobacco in its parks a few days ago, the City of Paris will experiment with a similar measure.

The Paris Council adopted on Tuesday 3 July a vow, filed by the Radical Group of Left, Center and Independent (RGCI), aimed at experimenting with the ban for four months of smoking in four parks and gardens of the capital. « The executive proposes an amendment to our wish to experiment with a smoking ban in four gardens in Paris and we accept! Vow amended and voted », wrote the group on its Twitter account.

This experiment is inspired by the ban put in place since 1er July in Strasbourg in all parks and public gardens of the city. It follows that established in France in workplaces and public places (shopping malls, airports, train stations, hospitals and schools) in February 2007, extended in 2008 cafes, bars, restaurants, hotels and nightclubs.

Cigarettes have already been banned in the 500 playgrounds of Parisian parks since 2015. The ban on smoking in public parks is in force in several countries, such as Finland, Iceland, the United Kingdom or in certain cities. the United States.

According to the National Cancer Institute, tobacco causes 73 000 deaths including 45 000 cancer each year in France. In 2017, a little over a quarter of French (26,9%) smoked daily, against 29,4% a year earlier, a drop of 2,5 points.
