A KIND OF CANCER THAT DOES NOT STOP GROWING!

The frequency of cancers of the bladder and kidney continues to grow, in fact: 30 000 new cases per year for the first city, 14 000 for the second.

« 80% of bladder cancers are related to tobacco and prolonged exposure to environmental toxic substances such as aromatic amines in paint for example« explains the Dr. Julien Deturmeny, urologist at the European hospital in Marseille.

A finding that challenges. As for the bladder, the effects of smoking are thought to affect kidney cancer with obesity and hypertension. If the number of urological cancers continues to evolve, the treatment options have also progressed. The most important innovation is in surgery.

« In the treatment of certain urological cancers, we have not gone from removing organs by open surgery to minimally invasive surgery.continues the surgeon. In two or three small holes, we can treat a tumor. By performing partial surgeries, the aggressiveness of the treatment is limited. Complications related to infections are also significantly reduced. Finally, the recovery for the patient is much faster.«

« A new step has even been taken with percutaneous surgery. The idea is to put a needle in the tumor and send energy to destroy it.."
