Yesterday in Switzerland, the National Council debated the limits of advertising for tobacco and alternative products to smoking including e-cigarettes. It was at the last minute that the National did not want to include in law that the cantons could take more stringent measures against vaping.

After two days of debate, the People's Chamber adopted the new law on tobacco products by 84 votes to 59 and 47 abstentions. Concerning the e-cigarette, by 95 votes against 94, against the opinion of its committee and in favor of a proposal from the SVP, the National did not wish to include in the law the possibility for the cantons of take more stringent measures against vaping.
The council also decided that the promotion of electronic cigarettes should continue to be possible. The project also authorizes e-cigarettes containing nicotine. But vaping with or without nicotine as well as heated tobacco products will be prohibited in places where smoking is currently prohibited.
