AUSTRALIA: Supreme Court sentences e-cigarette vendor

In Australia, a landmark case concerning the sale of e-cigarettes was being tried by the Supreme Court. As the sale of e-cigarettes is illegal in Australia, the owner of an online business has lost a lawsuit brought by the Department of Health.

supreme-courtVincent Van Heerden, owner of the online business « Heavenly Vapours "So faced the jurisdiction that is the first in the world to have banned the sale of electronic cigarettes. The Western Australian Supreme Court rejected his appeal whose main line of defense was to highlight the fact that e-cigarettes aretobacco risk reduction products».

For the judge Robert Mazza, no evidence can currently support this assertion made by Vincent Van Heerden, the appeal was therefore dismissed. Despite this failure, it is a historic judgment in Australia because since 2014 it is the first time that such a case is judged.
