AUSTRALIA: An e-cigarette vendor sued for misleading advertising.

Despite the many ongoing debates over e-cigarettes, it appears Australia is still far from ready to accept personal vaporizer as a harm reduction device.

accc_heroNO TOXIC PRODUCTS IN E-CIGARETTES

We still have the example with ACCC (Australian Competition and Consumer Commission) who filed a lawsuit in Federal Court against an online e-cigarette seller. He is accused of having made misleading statements on his platform declaring that his products did not contain any of the toxic chemicals found in conventional cigarettes.

Independent tests of the e-cigarettes in question would have been made by Joystick Company And chemicals, including formaldehyde, acetaldehyde and acrolein have been found, according to the ACCC. (Obviously, we all know that during normal use, these products are not present in the e-cigarette ...)

The World Health Organization classifies formaldehyde as a carcinogen, acetaldehyde as a possible carcinogen and acrolein as a toxic chemical.

To Sarah Court ACCC commissioner: "  suppliers had to have scientific evidence before claiming that their products did not contain carcinogens and toxic chemicals.". According to her " This is particularly important when the products are designed to be inhaled and differs from conventional cigarettes by the fact that they do not contain toxic chemicals, »

The ACCC is currently very active on these lawsuits, to note that two other suppliers of e-cigarettes have also been targeted and will have to answer these same charges in the Federal Court.
