INPES BAROMETER: Figures and comments…

New data from the Health Barometer of the National Institute for Prevention and Health Education (INPES) 2014 were unveiled yesterday during the press conference of the Minister of Health, Marisol Touraine. We will therefore propose and comment on these statistics in this article.

- " The number of regular smokers fell by one point between 2010 and 2014, going from 29,1 to 28,2% ”
A statistic that our dear Minister of Health welcomes. We quickly forget that these 28,2% are not only numbers, but also people who will have a high risk of disappearing as a result of their tobacco consumption. Instead of congratulating yourself, it might be time to speed up anti-smoking campaigns by promoting e-cigarettes.

- 17,8% of pregnant women still smoke in the third trimester of their pregnancy. "France is the country in Europe where pregnant women smoke the most", declared Marisol34% of regular smokers aged 15 to 75. "We cannot accept that France is the leading consumer country in Europe", reacted the Minister of Health
At the same time, Madam Minister, it is not by giving gifts to the tobacco industry and by freezing the price of packages that we will reduce consumption in France. Another moralizing speech which is not accompanied by any real desire to improve these figures. Madam Minister, do not make us believe that you feel concerned after the end of year gifts 2014…!

- Advertising for e-cigarettes has been framed and the substitute package nicotinic for young people from 20 to 25 years has tripled.
Very important to regulate advertising on e-cigarettes, why not offer an e-cigarette package as a nicotine replacement? Our dear vape should still be considered at its fair value at the weaning level….

According to the results of the 2014 Barometer, 12 million people have tried electronic cigarettes this year, or 26% of French people. Nearly 3% of French people use e-cigarettes every day, mainly men aged 25 to 34.
Results which try to make us believe in a certain ineffectiveness of the e-cigarette? Out of 26% who would have tested the vape, only 3% use it daily? If the figures are real, there are therefore two possibilities: Either the e-cigarette is a product that does not really work (obviously we can already rule out this hypothesis), or the products purchased are not of quality, or the advice n its 23% of French are not there, and in this case, there is still work to be done. Strangely, we rather want to rely on the fact that the figures came out of nowhere to try once again to discredit vaping!

- At all vapoteurs, 75% are still smokers but the “ Spray-smoking Has reduced its consumption of nine cigarettes a day.
Nine cigarettes out of how many? At what level of nicotine? With what material, and what advice? Stats that don't mean much if they're not accurate. Once again, we have the impression that the barometer is trying to explain that only 25% of vapers no longer smoke and, clearly, it is not very effective.

- Motives that lead individuals to choose the vapotage are, for 88% of them, the desire to reduce the number of cigarettes, the desire to quit smoking for 82%, the lower price, and the fact that it is less bad for the health for 66%.
That, we want to believe it… Nothing more to say, except for the last statistic of 66% which would probably be higher if the media stopped diffusing false studies and erroneous information.

- 0,9% of French people, or 400 people, have stopped smoking, at least temporarily. "A figure to be taken with caution".
According to these statistics, one would have to believe that out of a little more than 3 million vapers (1,3 million daily vapers and 2,8 million occasional) and about 12 million French who would have tried, and there would be only 400 000 people who have quit smoking? How can we believe these figures when we know how effective the e-cigarette is?

In the end, we can only realize that something is wrong with these statistics. They seem surprisingly to the advantage of detractors of the e-cigarette, and these figures would have us believe in the ineffectiveness of the vape, as a means of withdrawal. Clearly, our dear Minister of Health continues to tell us his usual blah, trying to make us swallow that the situation is improving. In the meantime, shameful gifts have been made to the tobacco industry, and the e-cigarette is once again targeted as a gateway to tobacco for young people… Madam Minister, one day you will no longer be able to hide the truth with your arranged statistics!
