After the broadcast of a Belgian media report on the sale of electronic cigarettes online, the UBV-BDB (Union Belge Pour La Vape) has decided to make an update by publishing an official press release.

“Following the dissemination of press articles concerning the intervention of health inspectors at customs, the UBV wishes to provide some clarifications or corrections to what has been propagated by the press.
Since 1 year, online sales are prohibited. Not quite true.
Online sales are prohibited for Belgians, and by extension, for European sellers wishing to sell online to Belgians.Online shopping is not prohibited, it is perfectly allowed for a Belgian to buy in China, the US, outside the European Union.
Nevertheless, as with any consumer product, certain rules specific to importation must be respected. The purchased product must comply with the rules in force in Belgium. This is in no way related to the products used with the personal vaporizer, children's toys, foodstuffs, electronic equipment, clothing, beauty products, are subject to the same regulations.
An "electronic cigarette", which all the rules of sale for Belgium are respected can very well be ordered on the internet, in China. We admit, however, that this is rarely the case now, but manufacturers are making efforts in this direction.
Regarding the example given by the inspector, who explains to us that it is forbidden to cover with a pattern of motifs reminiscent of candies on the pretext that it would make children want, again, it is incorrect. To our knowledge, there is no law that explicitly states what is or is not allowed on the package. As long as the packaging and \ or the product contain the legal requirements, there is no reason to enter it (composition, 3 national languages, warning on the dependency, etc.).
The report and the inspectors suggest that if products are seized, it is because they do not meet the standards. On the other hand, they insist on the prohibition to buy online.
At no time do they say what they do to standard products. This confirms that the sale is prohibited, but not the purchase.
We ask the question, why do they maintain this vagueness in their explanation?
