BELGIUM: The Union Belge pour la Vape attacks the royal decree on e-cigarettes!

January 17, 2017, a date that vapers in Belgium must hate. Indeed, it is on this day that the Belgian government had chosen to set up its royal decree regulating the e-cigarette. A recourse and events, the war does not seem over the Belgian Union for the Vape (UBV) which has since raised the funds to seize the Council of State in order to bring down the royal decree on electronic cigarettes.

THE OBJECTIVE: TO DROP THE ROYAL DECREE WHICH FRAMES THE E-CIGARETTE!

The royal decree on the e-cigarette, which details the products that can be manufactured and sold in Belgium, in such or such packaging… does not pass. The vapers claim their freedom and cannot stand being assimilated to tobacco consumers! Wednesday before the Council of State, the Belgian Union for the Vape (UBV-BDB) Calls for the outright cancellation of a royal decree directly affecting its members.

The vapers believe that this federal decision that regulates the sale of electronic cigarettes puts e-cigarettes and tobacco cigarettes on the same level. Even as long-term health effects of chronic use of e-cigarettes are currently insufficiently known", affirmed the Superior Council of Health.

According to the defenders of the e-cigarette, the royal decree leads to increase the prices for the consumers and to complicate the access to the vape. Thanks to crowdfunding, the UBV-BDB hired a lawyer to seize the Council of State. Goal ? Drop the decree of Maggie De Block (Open VLD), the minister at the head of FPS Public Health.

"SAD THAT HE FAILLE IS FIGHTING TO SAFEGUARD OUR HEALTH"

This non-profit organization « represents several hundred vapers in Belgium" , Explain Michel Kaiser, the lawyer of the UBV-BDB, in Sudpresse. « Those are consumers but also enthusiasts. For them, this RD establishes a restrictive regulatory regime, which goes against the social purpose of vaping. »

Many vaping associations believe that electronic cigarettes can help smokers free themselves from their addiction to tobacco. And that the toxicity of the vapoteuse has still not been proven. " In any case, the Royal Decree of Minister De Block has no legal basis since it is based on a law that deals with tobacco.“, Adds Mr. Kaiser.

The decision of the Council of State concerning the appeal of the ASBL should fall in the coming weeks. A heavy suspense for vapers who wrote last year: " We are ex-smokers, vapers, men and women who know that the free vape can and will save millions of lives. Sad that we must fight against power to safeguard our health, do not you think? »

The Council of State will make its decision in the coming weeks, for Belgian vapers there is more to wait!
