CANADA: Province of Alberta to ban e-cigarettes for people under 18

In Canada, the province of Alberta is the only without e-cigarette legislation, yet that may soon change. Indeed, the Canadian province will present a new law on vaping which would include a ban on anyone under the age of 18.

MEASURES TO DEAL WITH AN INCREASE IN VAPE IN YOUNG PEOPLE!

The province of Alberta in Canada introduced a new e-cigarette law that would include a ban on its use by anyone under the age of 18. The Minister of Health, Tyler shandro, says there is growing evidence on the health risks of vaping and statistics show that more young people in Alberta are using e-cigarettes.

« Strong measures must be taken to cope with a significant increase in vaping among young people“, Said the minister on Tuesday before presenting Bill 19, the“ Tobacco and Smoking Reduction Amendment Act"

Until now, the province of Alberta was a sort of Gallic village where no legislation on e-cigarettes existed. " No one knows all of the health harms of e-cigarettes yet, but the recent emergence of lung disease and death associated with vaping is a warning“, Declared the Minister.

If the bill passes, there would be restrictions that match those in place for traditional tobacco products on the display and promotion of vaping products in stores. Specialized vape shops would nevertheless remain exempt.

The province has said it does not intend to ban or restrict flavors proposed for vape, but the bill proposes that Cabinet be allowed to impose such restrictions once the law is passed and proclaimed. . The legislation would also expand the list of places where smoking and the use of e-cigarettes would be banned by adding playgrounds, sports fields, skateboard parks, bicycle parks and public outdoor swimming pools to avoid expose young people to products.

Vaping would also be prohibited in places where smoking is already prohibited, such as hospitals, schools and some stores. If the bill is passed, the new rules are expected to come into force this fall.
