CANADA: City of Peterborough includes banning e-cigarettes in public places.

If in the city of Peterborough in Canada there are already regulations for smoking in public places, the “Ontario Smoke-free” legislation has just pushed public health services to ban e-cigarettes in many places such as parks, playgrounds or even festivals.

A REVISION OF THE REGULATIONS AND AN ADDITION OF THE BAN ON E-CIGARETTES

In Canada, the City of Peterborough Health Service has partnered with the police, the city, to recall that under the legislation " Ontario Smoke-free »Smoking and the use of e-cigarettes are prohibited in parks, playgrounds, beaches, sports fields and festivals such as the Peterborough Pulse.

«Smoking rates continue to drop, but many people still think that smoking outside is harmless, when in reality there is no safe level of exposure to secondhand smoke.Explains the Dr. Rosana Salvaterra, medical officer of health. The active application of regulations must make it possible to protect people against passive smoking while promoting a reduction in the number of smokers.

And this year, something new is coming! It is the addition of e-cigarettes in the regulations of the city of Peterborough. On July 9, the city council approved this revision which henceforth prohibits the use of electronic cigarettes in many public places.

«We learn more about e-cigarettes and their contentsAdds Dr. Salvaterra. "The fact that e-cigarettes are less harmful than combustible cigarettes does not make them harmless.».

Peterborough Police and Public Health tobacco enforcement officers will enforce these new regulations in parks and at events starting this summer.
