A LEGISLATION THAT CHANGES THE DATA!
Since 23 last May, it is legal to sell vaping products, such as the JUUL e-cigarette in Canada, as Bill S-5 has received Royal Assent. The latter aimed to revise the tobacco laws.
The "24 Hours" has found a dozen online classifieds JUUL brand vapers for sale on the island of Montreal. None of the online sellers required the buyer to be 18 aged or older to buy their products.
«Under the Tobacco and Vaping Products Act (TVPA), it is prohibited to ship or deliver vaping products to anyone under the age of 18. Vendors and deliverers are required to verify that the person taking delivery of a tobacco or vaping product is at least 18 years of ageSaid the spokesperson for Health Canada, André Gagnon.
Yet, none of the sellers that '24 Hours"Contacted by email or phone has requested that we prove our legal majority to have the product delivered to your home. Health Canada has expressed concern about the appeal of youth vaping products, including JUUL.
According to André Gervais, medical consultant at the regional public health department of the CIUSSS du Center-Sud-de-l'Île-de-Montréal, the JUUL is one of the riskiest electronic cigarettes on the market.
«The JUUL has a nicotine content twice as high as the best-selling electronic cigarette in the United States. Its refillable cartridges, which JUUL calls pods, can bring more risk to consumers because there is more nicotine in this cigarette than in others"Said Gervais.
According to the "San Francisco Chronicle", the JUUL company saw its sales increase by 700% in 2017 and now controls half of the vaping market in the United States. The JUUL effect is therefore not likely to stop!
