New regulations prohibiting the sale to minors and the use of electronic cigarettes in public places will come into force on September 1 in British Columbia. It does not apply to marijuana vapers.
According to authorities, the use of electronic cigarettes is more prevalent among young people than any other age group. The new restrictions want to limit access to "e-cigarettes" for this population, as is the case for tobacco.
New regulations :
- Sale limited to adults of 19 years and over
- No advertising posters targeting young people
- No point of sale where young people are
- No sale in public buildings
- Use prohibited in all private or public schools, indoor public spaces and workplaces
- Use prohibited in buildings belonging to health authorities, except in designated smoking areas
The text defines electronic cigarettes as a product or tool in the shape or not of a cigarette, containing an electronic heating element capable of transforming a substance into vapor that can be inhaled or released into the air.
The exceptions are marijuana and tobacco if it is consumed in a ceremony under Indigenous traditions.
