In Canada, a student city is mobilizing against the "scourge" of the electronic cigarette which would be a passage for young people towards the traditional cigarette. So the Polyno student city becomes the first school in Abitibi-Témiscamingue to implement the Smoke-Free Generation Plan, offered by the Quebec Council on Tobacco and Health (CQTS).
The drug addiction worker at Polyno Student City Karyne Chabot indicates that a committee will be formed to put in place an action plan to intervene early in prevention.
We are going to appropriate the best tools that exist in terms of tobacco consumption prevention and we will be able to do that with the students and staff members.

The issue of vaping among young people is of concern to public health in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, as highlighted Laurane Gagnon, planning, programming and research officer at the Abitibi-Témiscamingue Integrated Health and Social Services Center.
In the last year, before our access to schools was cut, our stakeholders were increasingly called upon to quit vaping among young people. So this is something that is emerging and that for us should be developed with schools, an easy link so that young people can ask us questions to get rid of their addiction.

With the Smoke-Free Generation Plan, the participating schools form a committee. This committee will have access to training, workshops, and information on cessation resources, underlines Amelia Brunet, project manager in prevention at the Quebec Council on Tobacco and Health.
There is still a shift from electronic cigarettes to traditional cigarettes. So we want to prevent young people from starting to smoke vaping and then switching to traditional cigarettes.

The Smoke-Free Generation Plan offers an amount of $ 2000 to participating schools. At the Polyno Student City, plans are being made to set up a place where students can meet and discuss.
