"It's nicotine that creates addiction", the controversial interview with Dr Le Guillou

It had been some time since an interview with a health specialist had created controversy over vaping and nicotine. It is now done with the interview of the Dr Francois le Guillou, pulmonologist with our colleagues at Nice-Matin. In his speech, the President of Respiratory health France does not just warn about vaping but also accuses nicotine of creating addiction and being a gateway to smoking.

"ONE POISON IS ENOUGH!" »

This new interview with Dr Francois Le Guillou, pulmonologist and President of “ Respiratory health France will obviously not fail to make the vaping sector react.

It therefore presents infinitely less risk than cigarettes, even if less toxic does not mean "non-toxic".

In his speech, the health specialist alternates hot and cold, denouncing the “consumer good” side of vaping: “ it is true that, compared to other nicotine substitutes, which are drugs evaluated as such, the electronic cigarette is only a common consumer good of which we do not know all the effects on health."

To Francis LeGuillou, there is a culprit (always the same): It is the nicotine that creates the addiction. In the context of weaning from electronic cigarettes, the dose is reduced little by little, down to zero. But you just need to put a little bit back in to reactivate the addictive memory. »He declares adding« The problem is that the electronic cigarette is not used only by smokers seeking smoking cessation. We have seen the appearance of new products, puffs, these single-use, flavored electronic cigarettes, which are a hit – it is the case to say – among young people. But they contain nicotine, which creates addiction. It's an extremely perverse system! Nicotine does not change the taste, it just creates an addiction!"

If the President of Respiratory Health France » wants to be critical on the new uses of the electronic cigarette like the « Puff », he is still quite clear on the use of vaping among smokers: « It is indeed difficult to recommend electronic cigarettes in general. But that doesn't mean you have to put the brakes on, say, someone who is considering quitting smoking by switching to vaping.«
