SOUTH KOREA: A report on the harmfulness of heated tobacco accuses e-cigarettes ...

In South Korea, the health authorities have just presented the famous report long-awaited on heated tobacco. It is no surprise that this one is overwhelming and points to the presence of five carcinogenic substances. Unfortunately, the e-cigarette turns out to be a collateral victim of this report ...

A ACCOMPANYING REPORT THAT SHOWS THE NOCITY OF HEATED TOBACCO!

Like many people, our editorial staff expected some tongue in cheek following the announcement of the imminent release of a report on heated tobacco. And yet… In this report unveiled last Thursday, the South Korean health authorities declared to have found five "carcinogenic" substances in the systems of heated tobacco sold on the local market. The level of tar detected is higher than that of combustible cigarettes.

The WHO (World Health Organization) International Agency for Research on Cancer classifies certain substances belonging to group 1 as being carcinogenic to humans. Substances are classified in this category when there is clear evidence of harm to humans.

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety announced the results of its investigation into three smoking heaters: IQOS de Philip Morris Korea Inc., The Glo de British American Tobacco and the system of the South Korean manufacturer KT & G Corp.

In each product tested, benzopyrene, nitrosopyrrolidine, benzene, formaldehyde and nitrosamine ketone, five group 1 carcinogens were detected. According to the ministry, their presence varies between 0,3% and 28% compared to conventional cigarettes. A Group 2 carcinogen, acetaldehyde has also been found in some heated tobacco systems.

In addition, two of the three products contained more tar than conventional cigarettes, although the authorities did not wish to identify the products.

HEATED TOBACCO? E-CIGARETTE? NOT EVERYTHING DID THE SAME PRODUCT!

« After thoroughly studying various research, such as that conducted by the WHO, there is no reason to believe that e-cigarettes are less harmful than regular cigarettes.“, Said a ministry official.

Yes, you read correctly ! It is still surprising, however, that politicians today are unable to distinguish a heated tobacco product from a e-cigarette. And yet ...

This one adds " The amount of nicotine in e-cigarettes was about the same as that of conventional cigarettes, indicating that e-cigarettes are not useful for those who want to quit"

« The presence of carcinogens in electronic cigarettes is not new, but the important fact is that the amount of carcinogens is considerably lower." , said Philip Morris Korea in a press release.

Philip Morris Korea said it was incorrect to compare the amount of tar between electronic cigarettes and conventional cigarettes since the latter do not depend on the conventional combustion process.
