CÔTE D'IVOIRE: Experts recommend e-cigarettes!

Following a meeting in early July in Bassam, Cote d'Ivoire, observers and scientists believe that the tobacco industry should start producing electronic cigarettes.

This is one of the recommendations made at the end of a seminar which brought together some forty journalists from African countries. They reflected on the question of the theme: “ Understanding the Tobacco Regulatory Environment in Africa: Issues, Perspectives and What Roles for the Media ". This seminar was held as a prelude to the next Conference of the Parties to the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (COP7) scheduled for November 7 to 12, 2016 in India.

For scientists and observers present at this meeting, e-cigarettes could significantly reduce tobacco-related illnesses.

Tobacco experts and the World Health Organization (WHO) report that smoking is a public health problem because it is the cause of many deaths around the world, especially in developing countries .

Cigarette packages are increasingly presented in attractive ways, according to the WHO, which believes its packaging attracts many consumers who are unaware of the health effects of smoking.

In this regard, the WHO calls for the neutral packaging of tobacco products to reduce the risks and protect the health of the smoker.
