FILE: Is there a dehydration effect following vaping?

Dehydration is a subject that is little talked about in the world of vaping and yet can be a real problem when you start vaping. The subject is therefore, why vaping can make you thirsty?

VAPING SYNONYMOUS WITH DEHYDRATION?

In order to fully understand the link between vaping and potential dehydration, it must be understood that an e-liquid is mainly composed of 4 ingredients including propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, flavoring concentrates, and potentially nicotine.

Propylene glycol remains the main cause of dehydration. This is because the product is known as a hygroscopic substance, a substance which absorbs and retains water molecules preventing them from being absorbed by the body. This explains why being a vaper can affect your thirst (except for the Bretons who found this pretext), or cause a "dry mouth" effect or even the presence of dark circles under the eyes.

This is undoubtedly what explains that vapers are unanimous in saying that the vape makes you thirsty. In fact, numerous studies have found that water is no better for hydrating than any other fluid, especially among non-vapers. Any fluid intake, even fluid found in solid foods, contains enough water to prevent dehydration in a healthy adult.

But what about vapers, and their increased consumption of hygroscopic substances like propylene glycol? ?

It may be true that for a healthy adult, the consumption of coffee, soda, iced tea are effective moisturizers, but for vapers who use e-liquids based on propylene glycol, it is still important to drink the water !

The problem is this because for some vapers it is often more tempting to drink coffee, tea, beer, soda instead of water. While most of these fluids will temporarily relieve a dry mouth effect, it will never replace the necessary hydration that one may have with drinking water. This often explains why some vapers end up with headaches, nausea, and even muscle spasms.

Clearly, it is important to hydrate and even more if you are a fan of e-liquids based on propylene glycol. Nothing can ever replace a good bottle of water that we keep on hand!
