According to the site Europe1.fr, no scientific study so far has proven the effectiveness of the e-cigarette. It is now an independent study funded by the Ministry of Health that is being set up to decide. Obviously we will note that if the choice to do a new study is not uninteresting, thousands of studies on e-cigarettes already exist, contrary to what Europe 1 can claim.
As part of hospital clinical research programs (PHRC), the Ministry of Health has just granted funding of one million euros to an independent scientific study.
More effective than Champix ? The idea is to compare the electronic cigarette to a drug which has shown its effectiveness despite certain side effects, namely Champix. For this, the team of researchers, led by Doctor Ivan Berlin (pharmacology), from Pitié-Salpêtrière, will recruit from September 700 smokers over the age of 18. Smokers will be randomly and unknowingly divided into three groups: some will take the drug, others an electronic cigarette with nicotine, and the last, a placebo. After three months, researchers will study what has worked best. Clearly, which group contains the most people who have “completely” quit smoking.
Highly anticipated results. The study will be spread over two years. And the results are already eagerly awaited. In France, in fact, even if some doctors praise the benefits, the health authorities do not yet know whether or not they can officially recommend the electronic cigarette as a tool for smoking cessation. Great Britain has just taken the plunge, deciding to reimburse a brand of electronic cigarette for smokers, in the same way as the patches.
To see now which electronic cigarettes will be used for this study and how it will be organized. It is obvious that if this study is made on the basis of lower quality cigalikes, the results can only be distorted.
