SCIENCE: Dr Farsalinos would trust e-liquids from the tobacco industry more than others

Can we really be confident in the composition of the e-liquids currently available on the market? This question was recently asked during a conference at Vapexpo in Villepinte and the Dr Konstantinos Farsalinos did not hesitate to give his opinion while recalling that he was " not there to reassure people but to tell the truth"

ANY CONCERN ABOUT E-LIQUIDS AND AN ENDURING SILENCE!

If truth can hurt, it can also help an industry move forward! At the Vapexpo conference « Health and vape", The following question, concerning the safety of e-liquids, was asked by a spectator:" Can we say that the e-liquids offered by big companies like “Big Tobacco”, which have huge scientific departments, are safer? "

The response of Dr. Konstantinos Farsalinos, Cardiologist and recognized specialist in e-cigarettes, was direct and clear (39 min

“I agree 100%, I will trust an e-liquid from Big Tobacco a lot more than a liquid from an independent vape company. You know, the big problem with independent vape makers is that they don't create their aromas themselves. As you mentioned, they have very good creators who are able to mix and have very good results in terms of flavoring but they don't make their flavors themselves. Creating an aroma means taking simple molecules and mixing them in precise quantities to obtain a combination.

A large part of the manufacturers of e-liquids derived from the vape have 4 or 5 major suppliers of aromas. These suppliers are not the ones who make the flavorings and they don't know what's in the flavoring product either, they are resellers. (…) Tobacco manufacturers have a very different mentality, they will look at each component in a non-flavoring and test each of them. They have toxicologists who will assess the potential toxicity of each component according to the levels present inside the flavoring. It is for this reason that I would trust an e-liquid that comes from a tobacco company more. Unfortunately it's the truth… "

In the same conference (10 min), the Dr. Konstantinos Farsalinos explains that most e-liquid manufacturers focus a lot on taste but not enough on health aspects:

“We know what e-cigarettes and e-liquids should contain. The problem is that the vast majority of manufacturers don't know what they're putting in e-liquids and don't know the dosage either. It's just that they are lucky to put on products that aren't too bad but I don't think vapers deserve to be lucky with the products they are vaping. (…) The luck is that by nature the e-cigarette is a rather safe product and the main components come from the food industry. When they are absorbed and get into the blood, we know there is some safety. The relevant question on this subject is the influence of these products on the respiratory tract and it will take years of research to find out. "

So, there is still research to be done to obtain e-liquids that are totally devoid of toxicity. E-liquid manufacturers are able to do this if they hear the questions raised by the eminent researcher who has earned the respect of all vapers by his constant fight against biased studies and studies that he himself has carried out. . A pro-vape course that deserves better than the embarrassed silence that has welcomed this intervention and which should however push the manufacturers to go in the right direction.
