ECONOMY: Increase in tobacco sales for border tobacconists

The Covid-19 (coronavirus) pandemic seems to have a significant impact on our French tobacconists. While the ban on non-essential travel in Belgium has been extended under the same conditions until April 1, tobacconists in neighboring municipalities are taking advantage of the restrictive measures taken by our neighbors.

CIGARETTE SALES INCREASE!

A study published by the Seita (Industrial exploitation company of tobacco and matches), the second French player in vaping and tobacco, has just revealed that the sale of tobacco is on the rise.

This indeed reports a 16% increase in cigarette sales at tobacconists on this side of the border, compared to the figures recorded in February 2020. While it is still possible to travel to Belgium (at condition of living less than 20km from the border), many consumers choose to return to French tobacconists. A sharp increase that can be found at the Spanish and German borders.

Numbers « comparable with those recorded during the first confinement period (March 16 - May 10, 2020) », indicates the Seita which notes an increase of 2,9% in the whole of France over the same period.
