In the United Arab Emirates, the difference between vaping and consuming heated tobacco seems complex to understand. Indeed, following the approval of the promotion of IQOS in the United States, the doctors of the emirates are warning both against heated tobacco but also against vaping products.
A DIFFICULTY TO MAKE A DISTINCTION IN REDUCING RISKS
In the United Arab Emirates, regulatory authorities legalized the sale of “heat not burn” devices in July of last year. Still, UAE doctors have warned against using any devices used as alternatives to smoking after the Food and Drug Administration American gave its sales support from Iqos.
UAE regulators legalized the sale of heated tobacco products and e-liquids containing nicotine last year. Yet the country seems to have great difficulty in separating things and especially in dissociating two types of products which have nothing in common!
According to the doctors of the emirates, the aggressive publicity of these new technologies could lead to a higher consumption of nicotine among young people.
« It should be noted that it is preferable not to smoke or inhale fumes whatever the device. "Said the Dr Sreekumar Sreedharan , specialist in internal medicine at the Aster clinic in Karama, Dubai.
Dr Sreedharan cautioned against mixed messages from marketing groups promoting Iqos-like products. " Studies have shown that the toxicity may be less, but that does not mean it is zero " , did he declare.
« It may be better for a smoker to use Iqos, but there are always concerns about the use of these devices by young people. It might be a lesser evil, but it is still an evil and it is certainly not safe. »
Health authorities assume that, as with vaping, the long-term health impact of heated tobacco products is largely unknown.
