UNITED STATES: Teenagers prefer e-cigarettes to tobacco!

In the United States, a new national study shows that more and more adolescents no longer hesitate to try electronic cigarettes instead of smoking their first cigarette.

VAPOTAGE SHOULD CONTINUE TO GROW IN THE NEXT YEARS!

A new study from the United States therefore shows that more and more adolescents prefer to try vaping rather than tobacco. If the news seems positive, some researchers are concerned that the electronic cigarette may become the preferred choice of the new generation.

This nationally representative study shows that among final year high school students 35,8% had tried vaping compared to 26,6% who had ever smoked a cigarette.

« These results show that vaping has progressed and has become much more than just an alternative to smoking "- Richard Miech, principal investigator

With the growing popularity of e-cigarettes, public health circles have been debating the role electronic cigarettes should play. American researchers have generally adopted a prohibitionist position, stating that vaping did more harm than good. In contrast, British researchers focused on the potential benefits of the personal vaporizer for smokers.

To Richard Miech, principal investigator of the annual survey Monitoring the Future, vaping has progressed and has become more than just an alternative to smoking. The government-funded research is now in its 43rd year.

« The vaporizer has become a dispensing device for many substances, and this number is expected to increase in the coming years“Said Mr. Miech.

While researchers only have three years of data on the number of teens who use e-cigarettes, the latest Monitoring the Future study found vaping was already prevalent among high school students.

Since its peak in the mid-1990s, the smoking rate of all high school students has dropped dramatically. However, in the past few years, vaping has grown tremendously. For the first time this year, the “Monitoring The Future” survey asked teenagers if they were vaping nicotine or even marijuana.

Vaporization devices turn liquid aromas mixed with nicotine or marijuana into vapor. In the United States, they are largely unregulated. Although Congress passed legislation to regulate the devices in 2009, almost ten years later, the Food and Drug Administration has not issued regulations to guide manufacturers. He doesn't expect to do so until 2021.

“IT IS NOT A GOOD IDEA TO CONSUME NICOTINE! "

Obviously the results of this survey did not satisfy everyone. Robin Koval, CEO of the Truth Initiative, one of the world's leading youth tobacco control organizations said “ When it comes to young audiences, consuming nicotine in any way or form is not a good idea.". According to him, the situation is " worrisome"
