USA: Juul Labs responds to the FDA on the regulation of flavors for e-cigarettes.

In a press release published a few days ago, the company Juul Labs wished to react to the initiatives of the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) aimed at regulating the use of aromas in e-liquids to limit the use of e-cigarettes in minors. The move comes at a time when Juul Labs is increasingly under scrutiny and contestation.

KEVIN BURNS, CEO OF JUUL LABS

“Smoking remains the leading cause of preventable death worldwide, with more than 480 deaths each year in the United States. Our mission is to eliminate smoking in the world by providing adult smokers with a real alternative to cigarettes. We believe that aromas play an important role in helping smokers adopt e-cigarettes.

We fully support the FDA's efforts to limit the use of tobacco products by minors, but believe that restricting access to flavorings will have a negative impact on adults who are smokers and wish to quit smoking. The right flavors actually help smokers who don't want to keep the tobacco flavor. We encourage the FDA to allow further scientific exploration of the role flavoring plays in helping to quit smoking.

As JUUL Labs strives to support adult smokers in their efforts for change, we remain steadfast in our commitment to prevent the use of vape products by minors. Both objectives can be achieved through reasonable regulation to restrict the advertising and naming of flavorings. We look forward to continuing to work with the FDA, policy makers, and community leaders to help reduce tobacco use while protecting young people. "
