According to a new study released Monday, nearly half of those who followed Juul Labs Inc on the social network Twitter last year were not old enough to legally buy e-cigarettes in the United States.

The researchers analyzed the data collected in April 2018 via at least one public tweet subscribers from Twitter's Twitter account. Juul Labs (@JUULvapor). According to the study published online in JAMA Pediatrics, about 45% of people who followed Juul were between 13 and 17 years old. Only 19% of Juul followers were at least 21 years old. These results from a year ago obviously may not reflect what is happening on social media today.
In a statement, Juul said the study methodology raised questions and the result " differs considerably from the data Provided by Twitter to the company. Juul also said that during the period of investigation, “ proactive underage users were manually blocked from following the Twitter feed"
