The ordeal of Juul Labs does not seem to end in the United States! After lawsuits launched Monday in California, the Attorney General of New York State in turn sued on Tuesday the number one e-cigarette in the United States, Juul Labs, accused of misleading marketing.
A COMPLAINT OF 38 PAGES THAT ACCUSES JUUL LABS!
The complaint filed in a New York state court accuses Juul Labs deceptive marketing and advertising, and illegally selling its products to minors, amid a surge in vaping in U.S. colleges and high schools.
The complaint of 38 pages quotes in particular evenings and advertising campaigns organized by Juul to appeal to young people, or the choice of perfumes specifically intended for a young audience.
She also accuses the manufacturer of having assured high school students that its products were better for your health than cigarettes. The age limit for buying electronic cigarettes and refills in New York State was raised in mid-November from 18 to 21.
The complaint does not cite an overall amount of damages claimed, but calls for Juul to fund a fund to fight this health crisis, and pays compensation of several thousand dollars for each case of misleading practice.
California and the city of Los Angeles had already announced Monday that they had taken legal action against Juul Labs, accused of deliberately targeting minors in its marketing practices to entice them to vape, which is illegal.
However, the company has made many efforts by ceasing since October to sell most of its flavored refills, anticipating in passing a ban promised in September by the government of Donald Trump.
As a reminder, some of the company's marketing practices also earned it the opening of an investigation this summer by the federal consumer protection agency.
