In Idaho in the United States, “ Escape the vape“, A local program that started in July 2016 is working to send a clear message to dissuade children from using electronic cigarettes.
ESCAPE THE VAPE: A PROGRAM TO PROTECT CHILDREN FROM THE "DANGERS" OF VAPE
Tiffany Jenson, founder of the “Escape The Vape” program explains why this movement was set up: “We discovered that the electronic cigarette appeared in the early 2000s and was very little known to the population at the time. When she first appeared, she seemed like a safe alternative to smoking". Then people started to take an interest in it and wondered about the fact that there were still a lot of products inside ”.
The founder of the program who is also Professor of Sociology at BYU-Idaho has launched " Escape The Vape“After working with kids in Madison County. It generally targets children and adolescents aged 12 to 18. Jenson quickly started to take an interest in this new way of vaporizing. She tries to help children understand what nicotine vape is all about while teaching them not to be fooled by the attractive colors used by companies to sell their products.
And the program in question just received a grant of $ 53 from the Idaho Office of Drug Policy. " Escape The Vape Will now be able to make presentations in schools and launch public awareness campaigns.
ESCAPE THE VAPE: A REAL UNINFORMATION TOOL
We could that Escape The Vape starts from a good intention since its main mission is to protect children but in fact it is much more complex. Indeed, it is enough to go on the site of the program to realize the many disinformation which circulates there about the e-cigarette. We find there:
- Quotes from 2014 hospitalization reports for pneumonia, congestive heart failure, seizures and hypotension allegedly occurring after e-cigarette smoking.
- Studies from 2014 that would prove the bridge effect between electronic cigarettes and tobacco among young people.
- A parallel between nicotine e-liquid and the use of Cannabis (both would be extremely concentrated and addicting) ...
Clearly, the program site " Escape The Vape »Offers all the studies against electronic cigarettes .. And the danger is! What seemed like a good initiative turns out to be a magnificent propaganda tool for anti-vaping people. With the subsidy that the program has just received, a real disinformation campaign will be able to be carried out with children and adolescents but also with all smokers who might have the idea of quitting smoking with vaping.
