STUDY: The e-cigarette exposes to toxic products even without nicotine.

According to a new study conducted by researchers at UC San Francisco and recently published in the journal " Pediatrics“Teenagers who use e-cigarettes are reportedly exposed to significant levels of potentially carcinogenic chemicals even when e-liquids do not contain nicotine.

SUBSTANCES FOUND IN THE URINE OF STUDY PARTICIPANTS!

The e-cigarette could well expose users to toxic products even though the e-liquid used does not contain nicotine. This is what reveals a scientific study published on March 5 in the journal Pediatrics et conducted with 104 adolescents aged an average of 16,4 years.

Among them, 67 was vaping, 17 was smoking both tobacco and electronic cigarettes, and 20 was non-smoking. Through urine samples, levels of toxic compounds were compared between different groups, allowing researchers to find that vaping did expose to potentially carcinogenic toxic compounds, such as acrylonitrile, acrolein, propylene oxide, acrylamide, and crotonaldehyde. In addition, some of these chemicals have been found in the urine of adolescents who used electronic cigarettes without nicotine, but flavored.

Propylene glycol and glycerine, which are used to maintain e-cigarette products in liquid form, are considered safe at room produce, once heated, potentially carcinogenic toxic compounds.

"Teens should be warned that the vapor produced by electronic cigarettes is not harmless water vapor, but actually contains some of the same toxic chemicals found in the smoke of traditional cigarettes.”, Said the study's lead author, Mark L. Rubinstein, professor of pediatrics at the University of California at San Francisco (USA).

"Electronic cigarettes are marketed to adults trying to reduce or quit smoking, as a safer alternative to cigarettes", Reminded Mark Rubinstein. "While they can be beneficial to adults as a damage control method, children should not use them at all."
