The American and Canadian media have been publishing this famous “study” for a few days which announces that the e-cigarette would produce unstable molecules. This document should be taken with a grain of salt given the current context of e-cigarettes and the publication date of the study in question (August 2015)

HERSHEY, Pennsylvania - The electronic cigarette produces potentially harmful molecules that cause cell damage as well as cancer, which can pose a risk to users, argues a study from the Penn State University College of Medicine.

tx-2015-00220q_0005Researchers have found that e-cigarettes produce a high level of free radicals, which are unstable and incomplete oxygen molecules that damage our bodies by destroying healthy cells. The level of these molecules is 1000 to 100 fois less than for the regular cigarette.

Free radicals are produced when the device heats the nicotine solution at high temperatures.

«This is the first study that demonstrates that we have these highly reactive agents in the aerosol of the electronic cigaretteJohn P. Richie Jr., professor of pharmacology and public health science, said in a statement.

The use of the electronic cigarette is increasing, but little is known about its toxic substances and its effects on health.

Unlike the traditional cigarette, the electronic cigarette provides nicotine in the water vapor rather than burning tobacco.

The study was published in the journal "Chemical Research in Toxicology" in August 2015.
