STUDY: Development of wheezing after e-cigarette use

According to a new study published in the journal Tobacco Control, the use of e-cigarettes would be associated with the development of wheezing which results in an abnormal noise emitted during exhalation and / or inspiration. This wheezing could cause disabling and serious complications.

“E-CIGARETTE IS HARMFUL FOR PULMONARY HEALTH! "

Wheezing, which should lead to consultation, results in an abnormal noise emitted during expiration and / or inspiration. The complications of this symptom can be disabling and serious, such as asthma, COPD, emphysema, gastroesophageal reflux, heart failure, lung cancer or even sleep apnea.

For this study, the researchers here analyzed the medical data of over 28 000 Americans. Of the adult 28 171 participants, 641 (1,2%) were exclusively vapers, 8525 (16,6%) were smokers, 1106 (2%) consumed both products, and 17 899 (80,2%) consumed nothing. Compared to those who consumed nothing, vapers were 1,7 times more likely to develop wheezing and related complications.

« The message is that e-cigarettes are harmful to lung health“, Concludes the author of the study Deborah J. Ossip, professor at the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC).
