STUDY: A greater risk of asthma with vaping?

This is a new study from the United States that once again sows doubt in the world of vaping. Indeed, according to researchers from theAmerican Thoracic Society, a link has been made between the vaping of adolescents and young adults with the development of asthma.

A 19% INCREASED RISK OF SUFFERING FROM ASTHMA FOR VAPORS

The scientists relied on data from theCanadian Community Health Survey (CCHS), carried out between 2015 and 2018. The study is based on the 17.190 candidates, aged 12 or over, who took part in the CCHS. Among them, only 3,1% said they had used an electronic cigarette in the past 30 days.

The researchers noted a 19% increased risk of asthma for vapers. On the smoking side, the risk is 20%. And for the former smokers, the risk reaches 33%. Finally, people who have never smoked or used electronic cigarettes have no significant association with asthma.

« Although vaping does not cause stress, it seems that the urges to vape can be triggered by stress and anxiety, which makes it harder for the e-cigarette user.“, Explains the Dr Teresa To in a statement.

« Our results suggest that the use of electronic cigarettes is a modifiable risk factor asthma to be considered in primary care for youth and young adults“, She concludes.
