UNITED STATES: The FDA has started sending out warning letters.

With the introduction of new tobacco product regulations in the United States, one might expect change. Well be aware that the FDA (US Food and Drug Administration) did not wait very long since measures have already been taken against several retailers who sold tobacco products to minors.

The FDA has therefore announced that it has taken action against 55 retailers sending out the first warning letters following sales of newly regulated tobacco products (e-cigarettes, e-liquids, etc.) to minors. These actions come about a month after the entry into force of this new federal regulation which prohibits the sale of e-cigarettes, cigars, hookah tobacco and any other newly regulated tobacco products to persons under the age of 18. .

It was during compliance checks in the large national distribution chains that it was found that minors were able to buy “flavored” tobacco products (we probably speak of e-liquid).

Since 2009, the FDA has done more than 660.000 inspections in shops selling tobacco products, it issued more than 48.900 warning letters for breaking the law and launched more than 8.290 complaints with fines.

And in the United States, we do not laugh with the law! Consumers and other interested parties may report a potential violation of the regulation including the sale of tobacco products to minors. For that it is enough to fill a simple form of declaration on the site of the FDA….
