SWEDEN: Outdoor smoking ban extended!

In a few years, Sweden has done miracles against smoking, not necessarily by playing on the price of the package. Alternative products, such as "snus", produced to suck there are the wind in the country.

SWEDEN WANTS LESS THAN 5% OF SMOKERS IN THE COUNTRY!

The smokers' space is shrinking in Sweden, where a new law has come into force on 1er August banned smoking (including e-cigarettes) in outdoor public places. The prohibition signs have already begun to bloom on the terrace in the streets of Stockholm, where the measure has been accompanied by an extensive awareness campaign. Only uninformed tourists continue to break the rule known to all.

The law, far from being confined to cafes and restaurants, extends to outdoor wharves, bus shelters and taxi stands. It also applies to the entrance of railway stations, markets, outdoor sports facilities, playgrounds, leaving schools ... Some cities in the south of the country have even taken the opportunity to sign orders against the cigarette on the beaches.

Smoking inside public places is prohibited since 2005, date from which the fight against smoking has taken giant steps, in this country of 10 million inhabitants. The deepening of the restrictions falls within the framework of the plan Smoke-free Sweden 2025 Wanted by the Prime Minister Stefan Lofven. The goal is clear: to be the first country to fall below the 5% of smokers, while many countries, like Canada, have the same goal by 2035.

NO TOBACCO, NO VAPE BUT SNUS!

Sweden is on the right track as it already holds the record for the lowest cigarette consumption. In 2017, the share of Swedes who smoked at least once a day was 7%, much less than in 1970 years, where they were 35% to smoke daily. In some portions of the population, the goal of 5% is already filled, as in men between 30 and 44 years. The effects on public health are palpable: Sweden suffers half as many lung cancers as the rest of Europe.

Nicotine addicts, however, bypassed the ban on smoking and vaping. They chew tobacco in a version brought up to date, the "snus". The product is in the form of small bags to suck. This mode of ingestion is banned everywhere else in the EU. Sweden obtained a derogation when it joined 1995.

It has been used as a substitute for repentant smokers (especially men) who can use it safely in public spaces. Snus has the advantage of not exposing the direct neighborhood, but does not protect against nicotine addiction. Above all, it causes high-dose oral lesions, and promotes diabetes and some forms of cancer (pancreas, colon ...).
