Cardiologist and professor of biophysics and nuclear medicine, Dominique Le Guludec will head the authority responsible for evaluating drugs and medical devices. She succeeds Agnès Buzyn, the current Minister of Health who for her part was not really in favor of electronic cigarettes.
NEW HEAD, NEW VISION?
Dominique Le Guludec, President of the Board of Directors of the Institute for Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety (IRSN), will be appointed President of the College of the High Authority for Health (HAS) to replace Minister Agnès Buzyn, after the favorable opinion of two parliamentary committees Thursday, November 16.
His name had been proposed by Emmanuel Macron in mid-October for the presidency of the college of the HAS. This proposal received a favorable opinion on Thursday from the Social Affairs committees of the National Assembly (18 votes in favor, 1 abstention) and of the Senate (26 votes in favor and one blank), opening the vote to the nomination of Dominique Le Guludec by the President of the Republic.
« HAS is an important institution in the field of health« , she said Thursday morning during her hearing before the Assembly's Social Affairs Committee. « It allows us to base our health policies on a scientific and medical approach, evidence-based medicine, which alone makes it possible to determine the proper care and its relevance.« she added.
If Agnès Buzyn was not really favorable to the electronic cigarette, Dominique Le Guludec has so far never given his vision of the fight against smoking. Hopefully she will be more lucid than the current Minister of Health.
