Here, Olivier Veran, neurologist at Grenoble-La Tronche University Hospital and deputy for the 1st district of Isère, questioned the Minister of Solidarity and Health, Agnès Buzyn, in the Social Affairs Commission, on the place of vaping in the fight against smoking. If Agnès Buzyn declares to have opinions which have evolved over time, she asks that she be shown the usefulness of vaping in stopping smoking.

At the question of the deputy Olivier Veran on the vaping, the Minister of Health Agnès Buzyn declared:

you asked me a question asking me for my opinion on vaping (Laughter…) I had opinions that have evolved over time. In fact, I am rarely dogmatic, I am like you hospital doctor, I tend to look at analysis and literature. There was a time when studies showed that vaping reduced the number of cigarettes smoked but did not make it possible to stop smoking. Good… Except in oncology, what counts in smoking is to stop smoking since it is the length of smoking that counts much more than the number of cigarettes smoked. So vaping absolutely did not provide the benefit that we wanted in terms of stopping smoking. And so I didn't fight at all for vaping to be promoted. In addition, we still had a certain number of doubts about the quality of the products used so here it is… I follow the scientific literature, if it is shown to me now that vaping is useful, I would eventually change the way it is today framed in France. I don't actually have a personal opinion on the subject«
