The month of November will once again be an opportunity to encourage the French to quit smoking with the second edition of the “Tobacco Free Month”, which will kick off on Monday by the Minister of Health Agnès Buzyn.

Last year, this operation, carried out in collaboration with the French public health agency and Health Insurance, resulted in a television spot, the distribution of free smoking cessation kits or even the launch of a “coaching” application to support smokers in their attempt.
The idea : encourage smokers to keep a month without a cigarette, hoping to create a click for permanent cessation of smoking.
This operation is inspired by an initiative carried out in the United Kingdom since 2012, “Stoptober”. According to experience across the Channel, quitting smoking for a month increases the chances of quitting smoking for good by five.
It is also in November that the first of six planned increases in the price of tobacco will take place, which will bring the packet of cigarettes to 10 euros by the end of 2020, again with the objective of reducing tobacco consumption. France is one of the poor performers in Europe, with 32% of regular smokers and 24% of daily smokers.
