HIGH NOTIFICATION COST, PROHIBITION OF AROMA: HARD HIT FOR ELECTRONIC CIGARETTE
Hungary has implemented the European Directive on tobacco products (TPD) finally opening its market to electronic cigarettes and nicotine e-liquids but as the last clearly indicates ECigIntelligence regulatory report, the country's regulatory regime remains the most severe in Europe.
Indeed, the distance sale of e-cigarettes and e-liquid is prohibited in Hungary and it is almost impossible to buy vaping products over the internet. Some local sellers have preferred to close their e-cigarette shops to open in neighboring countries where regulations are less restrictive.
Hungary and Slovenia are the last nations in the European Union to have implemented a tax on electronic cigarettes. Regarding Hungary, this tax all e-liquids regardless of the level of nicotine, at a rate per ml which will be increased in a few months.
Although the tax on e-liquids is consistent with that of other countries of the European Union, the royalty that applies to all notifications of product conformity is one of the highest in Europe.
Hungary is also one of the few states in the European Union to have banned flavorings, the National Institute of Pharmacy and Nutrition (OGYÉI) having declared some time ago: “That alternative devices to tobacco and electronic cigarettes could not contain aroma.«
