INDONESIA: An increase of 57% taxes on the electronic cigarette.

Indonesia has decided to increase taxation on electronic cigarettes and related products by 57% to offset the decline in revenue generated by tobacco consumption.

AN INDIGNATION OF THE ASSOCIATIONS OF VAPOTEURS!

Would electronic cigarettes threaten Indonesian tax revenues? Without a doubt. In any case, to prevent a possible drop in tax revenues, the government of Jakarta has decided to increase taxes on electronic cigarettes and the various products that are related to them by 57% from this summer.

In Indonesia, where 65% of men smoke, cigarettes (most often with cloves) contribute to the state budget to the tune of 8,6 billion euros, against only 6,1 million for electronic cigarettes, in full development in the country. The Indonesian association of vapers is indignant against this spectacular increase in taxes, believing that this decision will kill the e-cigarette industry in the bud.

Tobacco has always smelled of sanctity in Indonesia, which is one of the rare countries not to restrict its development. Cigarettes are very inexpensive there, since the first price of a pack is around one euro. A head of the Indonesian Ministry of Health, quoted by AFP, assures besides that it is better to quit smoking and vaping altogether, because in his eyes electronic cigarettes are just as dangerous as conventional cigarettes.
