INDONESIA: Government imposes 57% tax on vaping products

It's not easy to be a vaper and to live in Indonesia. Indeed, the government of the country has just decided that vaping products would be subject to an excise tax of 57% from July 1, 2018.

The vapers who live in Indonesia will have to prepare to pay more for their products, because the government, through the General Directorate of Customs of the Ministry of Finance has ensured that vaping products are subject to a tax of 57%. These excise duties, which should drive up the price of electronic cigarettes, will come into force on July 1, 2018.

According to Heru Pambudi, the Director General of Customs and Excise " The basic ingredients used in these products come from tobacco, from there, these objects must be subject to excise duties. »

The customs authorities will consult with the Ministry of Commerce to ensure that the implementation of this tax is proceeding smoothly.

Heru Pambudi said it did not target the amount of potential revenue from these vaping excise duties. According to him, the most important at the moment would be to limit the consumption of these products which could potentially be harmful to health.

By imposing excise duties on vaping products, the government expects prices to rise and no longer be affordable for children.
