It is a subject that we may not mention enough: the presence of tobacco in films, in the cinema and more particularly in blockbusters. However, an impact exists since a 72% increase in representations or suggestions of tobacco use was detected by the CDC.
A 72% INCREASE IN TOBACCO USE IN BLOCKBUSTERS
More and more cigarettes are seen in popular big-budget movies, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Depictions or suggestions for tobacco use in these films increased by 72% between 2010 and 2016, the report says, according to which showing images of tobacco on screen would encourage younger people to smoke.
On average, the first cigarette is smoked at the age of 14 and a half. In France, among adolescents aged 15, more than 5 in 10 have already experimented with tobacco and around 2 in 10 smoke daily, reports the French Federation of Cardiology.
