INTERVIEW: The dangers of e-cigs by Paul Hofman

INTERVIEW: The dangers of e-cigs by Paul Hofman

Cheaper and perhaps less toxic than tobacco, the electronic cigarette has been a great success for a few years. Futura-Sciences went to meet Paul Hofman, director of the pathology laboratory in Nice and a pioneering researcher in the detection of lung cancer, to learn more about the risks of electronic cigarettes.

Since the e-cigarette is relatively new, little is known about its long-term health impact. This substitute for tobacco is regularly the subject of studies and publications in the scientific press. For now, the most damaging effect would be addiction to nicotine, an addiction that can lead to smoking.

Carcinogenic substances of the electronic cigarette

Beyond the nicotine that generates dependence on the product, when we "vapote", we expose ourselves to toxic or carcinogenic substances. Formaldehyde, recognized by the WHO as being able to cause cancer, or acetaldehyde, are part of the molecules present in the vapors. Other irritating substances are also detected, such as acrolein, which can give rise to chronic inflammation.

Populations at risk

The most exposed people are obviously children and pregnant women, particularly sensitive to the above mentioned molecules. With the nicotine content of some e-liquids, there is also an addiction that can lead a non-smoker to a more conventional smoking and probably much more harmful to health.

What we think of the Vapoteurs.net editorial staff

When we look at the comments on this famous site, there is something to fall from above. We proposed to you yesterday, a article on the latest commercials in California who consider that the vaping “lobbies” are “manipulating” the public in order to offer them even more harmful products. Well, it is a discourse that we now find in France with all this disinformation and these phony interviews or scientific pseudonyms come to throw up at us the data of analyzes and tests which are erroneous.
In addition, we can only be even more worried by seeing that the public is now starting to consider that a simple vapoteur who defends his rights is necessarily a person belonging to the e-cigarette lobbies. It becomes serious and distressing. Even if some people still have trouble sharing this kind of articles that we offer because they come from another site and they prefer to share the source, do not forget that by sharing our link, you invite the public to have access to a lot of information on the e-cigarette. Moreover it is the same with all the other blogs on the vape.
