MOROCCO: A tax on e-cigarettes is voted unanimously!

Bad news for the vaping sector in Morocco… Yesterday, a tax levy on e-cigarettes was decided. Thus, the Finance and Economic Development Committee of the House of Representatives has decreed, unanimously of its members, that vaping products will now be taxable.


A TAX ON E-CIGARETTE AS FOR OTHER TOBACCO PRODUCTS!


This measure was taken after amendments proposed by the deputies of the parliamentary groups of the majority, on this issue, had been approved. Indeed, the majority deputies had asked for a tax reform concerning e-cigarettes, given the dangers it constitutes, according to data from the World Health Organization (WHO).

In addition, the Minister of Economy, Finance and Administration Reform emphasized that the electronic cigarette is imported in Morocco, like other household appliances. Mohamed Benchaaboun also stated that all brands of cigarettes are subject to excise duties, except e-cigarettes.

The measure the daily talks about is a tax on e-cigarettes with the introduction of ICT on the e-liquids used: "3 DH per milliliter (28ct Euro) for liquids without nicotine and 5 DH (46ct Euro) for those containing nicotine».
