This is what theAssociation for the Protection of the Environment and Consumers (APEC).

Through an open letter to the Minister of Health, Kailesh Jagutpal, the president of the Association for the Protection of the Environment and Consumers (APEC), Suttyhudeo Tengur, points out that the anti-smoking campaign has had mixed results with a relative decline in smokers. But he says he has noticed a growing number of "vapers".

While the sale of e-cigarettes is not officially authorized in Mauritius, the president of the NGO points out that the Ministry of Health has failed in its attempt to formally stop the sale of this product. This is what prompted him to set up a technical committee to look into the revision of the Public Health (Restrictions on Tobacco Product) Regulations 2008. According to Suttyhudeo Tengur, one must be in compliance with the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO).

In its letter to Health, APEC also specifies that the toxicity of the products used in e-cigarettes has not been confirmed by any international body. " In Germany or the United States, we talk about the damage that can cause steam to sensitive organisms of the human body. If some German universities deny the harmful effects of this one, there has been no scientific study that highlights its harmfulness on human organs He says.

Conversely, the harmful effects of smoking are known and are among the causes of various types of cancer, including that of the lung. For Suttyhudeo Tengur, the public should be informed about the potential effects of e-cigarettes. It is the same for the regulation of its sale in Mauritius.
