WALES: An attempt to ban the e-cigarette that does not pass!

In Wales, an attempted proposal banning the use of e-cigarettes in public places (schools, hospitals, restaurants) is struggling to pass ...

welshLe Welsh Ministry of Public Health launched a bill that contains provisions to restrict the use of e-cigarettes in a number of public places and this was discussed yesterday at Senedd (Welsh National Assembly).
But the controversial proposal has sparked criticism, with some politicians saying that it would unfairly penalize those who use e-cigarettes to try to stop smoking.

The Welsh Liberal Democrats have tried to block the ban, who had previously claimed vaping research as an argument did not hesitate to insist that more than 22.000 people had successfully quit smoking using the e -cigarettes (In England during the year 2014). The leader of the group, Kirsty Williams moreover declared: "I am not convinced that the measures proposed will improve the health of the people of Wales. »

AM Conservative Darren Millar also criticized the proposal, for him: " There is no more evidence of smoke damage from a burning piece of toast than there is from e-cigarettes. »Before adding wales2 » If we are not careful, the Minister of Health (Mark Drakeford) will bring us down a slippery slope and we will end up banning air fresheners, the use of deodorant, the use of certain cleaning products or even opening a window that faces the road due to '' a potential risk to air quality"

wales1Opponents of the bill have explained that research shows that e-cigarettes help smokers, this did not convince the Minister of Health, Mark Drakeford. This attempt was not enough to win the support of members of the assembly who voted for the ban before the final vote on the bill which will take place next week.

Plans aim to extend the ban to playgrounds, school grounds, daycares, sports centers as well as most shops, zoos, libraries, amusement parks and museums.
For e-cigarette specialty stores, casinos, non-food pubs and bars, counseling rooms, adult hospices, nursing homes and private residences they will be exempt from the ban.

Some organizations have come out in favor of banning e-cigarettes in public places : Local Health Boards, British Medical Association, Public Health Wales, Directors of Public Health, Some Councils, Center for Tobacco Control Research (US)

Others have come out against the ban on e-cigarettes in public places Action Against Smoking and Health (ASH), Cancer Research UK, Royal College of Physicians Wales, Tenovus, DECIPHer Cardiff University, UK Center for Tobacco and Alcohol Studies, British Heart Foundation Wales.
