PHILIPPINES: Following an accident, the authorities are calling for e-cigarette regulation.

A few days ago in the Philippines, the Ministry of Health called for the regulation of e-cigarettes. This request follows the explosion of a battery in the face and severe burns of a 17-year-old teenager.

A REASON TO REGULATE THE E-CIGARETTE IN THE PHILIPPINES!

An accident, a 17-year-old teenager seriously burned by vsiage… All that was needed was for the Ministry of Health to recommend e-cigarette regulation. The call was even supported by the WHO (World Health Organization) and the Philippine E-Cigarette Industry Association.

In a press conference, DOH (Department of Health) Undersecretary Rolando Enrique Domingo said: “ The Philippines Food and Drug Administration must regulate the use of vaping and all devices capable of delivering nicotine ” adding " We not only want to regulate what they contain but also the external elements including those that may possibly explode."

Regulation of vaping would require legislation and currently bills on this subject are still pending in Congress. In the meantime, Rolando Enrique Domingo proposes that the products of the vape be registered and verified, he also attacks e-liquid which " could contain harmful chemicals"

FOR WHO, THESE PRODUCTS "HAVE A HARMFUL EFFECT ON HEALTH"

Following these statements, the World Health Organization (WHO) did not hesitate to support this proposed regulation of e-cigarettes.

« We are fully on the side of the Ministry of Health in this call for regulation regarding the use of these devices. It is clear that these are products which have an effect on health, a detrimental effect on health"Said the Dr. Gundo Weiler, WHO Representative in the Philippines.

La Philippine E-Cigarette Industry Association (PECIA), for its part, maintains " fair regulation based on unbiased scientific evidence, as well as credible research and results"

The president of PECIA, Joey Dulay, said that part of their recommendations " is to only authorize the use and sale of regulated or variable vape devices with safety functions and complying with the product standards of the DTI"
