After having tested the famous Aspire "Atlantis", we will now tackle his direct competitor, the " Subtank »Par Kangertech. THE KANGER “SUBTANK”: PRESENTATION AND PACKAGING
The " Subtank »From Kangertech is the first atomizer which makes a clearomizer and which is reconstructable, a real technological innovation! Presented in a large, well-stocked box, the "Subtank" is well protected in its case. The pack includes the "Subtank" clearomiser with its "OCC" resistance of 0,5 ohm, an additional resistance of 1,2 ohm, an additional 22mm plate, a plate and a bell type "RBA", cotton, a mini screwdriver, 2 micro-coils, a top cap "Atomizer" as well as a manual in French! As always with Kanger, you will be able to verify the authenticity of your product by means of a scratch code on the "Subtank" box.
The new Kanger atomizer has a diameter of 25mm which can be reduced thanks to a 22mm cone in order to adapt it to most of your mods, It presents a pyrex reservoir of 6ml for the clearomizer configuration and 4,2ml in RBA. The 510 stud of the "Subtank" is mounted on a spring which will allow you to use it everywhere without having to make any adjustments.
DESIGN WORKS BUT OVERDIMENSION DIAMETER
The "Subtank" offers a design very close to what one can find on the reconstructable atomizers "High-end" of the moment. Clearly, its look has everything to please informed users of reconstructable material and the "subtank" will have no trouble coming to establish itself on your mods and boxes in an aesthetic way.
Unfortunately, there is a black point that is important! The 25mm diameter is really a problem for many vapers as most mods are configured to accommodate 22mm. And even if Kanger thought of providing a 22mm adapter cone, it slightly spoils the aesthetics of the "Subtank". The fact remains that the use of this adapter in no way obscures the performance of this atomizer.
INNOVATIONS AT KANGER! WE LOVE !
With the "Subtank", Kanger did strong! We can already note some interesting things, first of all the air flow ring which offers us a comfort of vape and the choice of a tight or very airy draw, and even if this notched ring is not always very flexible , it offers 4 positions. You will use the first to start your resistance (closed hole), then the next 3 to have a tight, airy or very airy draw. We will also note on this model, the ingenious idea of having the pyrex tank stuck between 2 joints and not to have it embedded, in short, you can remove it or put it back by simply sliding it. Also we will notice that the structure which supports the pyrex will protect it against small shocks (our model has fallen several times on a table and has never broken!).
Unlike its competitor, the "Subtank" is very easy to fill, there is a lot of space and its large capacity is clearly a plus!
SUBTANK: THE "CLEAROMIZER" POSITION
When you receive your "Subtank", it is basic in the "clearomizer" position and a 0,5 ohm "OCC" resistance is installed. These new square shaped "OCC" resistors are made with organic cotton, they are available in 0,5 ohm or 1,2 ohm. And the observation is clear! For 0,5 ohm resistors and used under the recommended conditions (between 20w and 30w), the result is bluffing especially in terms of flavors, even if the vapor will obviously be very dense (especially with the air flow completely open). The 1,2 ohm resistors will on the other hand be of little interest in terms of rendering, they will mainly be used by people who do not wish to acquire equipment suitable for sub-ohm. But just like for its competitor, the “subtank” offers with its new “OCC” coils a vape at the level of a reconstructable atomizer.
SUBTANK: THE "RECONSTRUCTIBLE" POSITION (RBA)
And the great ingenuity of Kangertech is there! With a few strokes of the screwdriver, you will be able to transform your clearomizer into a real reconstructable atomizer! For this you will need to change the top cap by removing 2 screws, and install the “Rba” plate provided. (In 40 seconds, you switch from one position to another). The famous "RBA" plate supplied is of the same type as that of a Kayfun, it will allow you to make assemblies in single and double coils. After testing it, we will have had no "gurgling", no leaks or apparent dry hits. However, we do not recommend using the coils or cotton provided by Kanger, it is more judicious to make your own assembly and to use Fiber Freaks or even Cotton bacon in order to have an optimal rendering.
AND WHAT CAN I USE THE BAT?
The Kanger "Subtank" will adapt to both 22mm and 25mm supports, so you can easily use it on 26650 mods or on classic 22mm mods. The boxes will also do well to accommodate this atomizer even if it may overflow like on the IPV 2. However, this will not prevent its proper functioning. Obviously, if you want to use sub-ohm resistors you will need hardware that supports at least 0,5 ohm resistors. Do not forget, however, that using sub-ohm resistors will require suitable batteries (ex: Efest Purple). If you don't have any material supporting the sub-ohm and you are not interested, you can also use the subtank with its 1,2 ohm resistors and make your own coils in adequacy.
POSITIVE POINTS OF KANGER SUBTANK
- Its high quality “OCC” 0,5 ohm resistors (over a week's lifespan), with great flavor rendering and significant vapor.
- Its multiple ingenious innovations which make it an easy to handle and solid atomizer!
- 2 in 1 sound: Clearomizer and RBA, a real revolution that offers two high-performance and efficient systems!
- Its high-performance air flow ring and its aerial drip tip which offers a varied choice of vape.
- Its large capacity tank (6ml or 4,2ml) and the thickness of the pyrex (solidity guaranteed!)
- Its price of 39,90 Euros! It's hard to have a quality clearomizer and rba at this price! Very interesting report / quality / price!
NEGATIVE POINTS OF KANGER SUBTANK
- Its 25mm diameter which even compensated by a 22mm adapter cone remains a negative point for the majority of vapers.
- The lack of flexibility of the Air-flow ring.
- Leaks at the lower seal. (Be careful that the seal does not move when you put your pyrex back on.)
- The average quality of the screws present on the top cap and the RBA. (a basic damaged screw on our model)
- Problems of "short-circuits" on some RBA models have been observed, If you have the case: Screw back the stud underneath because it can be badly screwed which has the effect of shifting the 2 poles.
- Kanger's lack of responsiveness! OCC resistors are still unavailable at present and no replacement pyrex is offered.
EDITOR'S ADVICE FOR USING KANGER'S "SUBTANK"
- Remember that the Subtank uses Sub-ohm resistors, so you will need suitable batteries in order to vape safely (if you do not know, do not hesitate to ask!)
- We advise you to have bigger clouds to use e-liquids 100% VG
- If you are vaping at 0,5 ohm, the hit will be much more present, we advise you to lower your nicotine level so as not to have a too powerful hit.
- For a longer life of your resistors, remember to stay between 20 and 30 watts which will be more than enough to have a vape at the top!
- For the RBA, make your own resistances and use Fiber Freaks or cotton bacon instead of the material provided.
OUR CONCLUSION ABOUT THE KANGER “SUBTANK”
The "Subtank" is a real revolution. But like any "new" product, there are still a few flaws like its 25mm diameter that Kanger will probably end up solving by offering a mini version in a while. But the “Subtank” remains an extraordinary clearomizer which with these new 0,5 ohm “OCC” coils offers a quality sub-ohm vape and which also puts in everyone's hands the possibility of learning or using a reconstructable. For our part, this "Subtank" is not comparable to its competitor from Aspire because it does not address the same needs. The "Subtank" will be aimed as much at experienced vapers wishing to have a 2 in 1 atomizer as at beginners who will wish to discover the sub-ohm vape and the possibility of making assemblies. What is certain is that to try it is to adopt it!
