UNITED KINGDOM: The e-cigarette soon on sale in hospitals?

In the United Kingdom, the electronic cigarette is playing an increasingly important role in the fight against smoking to such an extent that health authorities may well offer it for sale in hospitals in the near future.

THE E-CIGARETTE IS THE UK'S MOST POPULAR TOBACCO WANTING AID

To promote vaping as a quitting aid, health authorities are considering replacing smoking areas in hospitals with vaping areas. Two general hospitals (in Colchester and Ipswich) have already tried the experiment by removing outdoor areas reserved for smokers and replacing them with “vaping friendly” areas.

To go further and encourage patients to give up smoking, the health authorities are also considering selling e-cigarettes in dedicated spaces within the hospital. The goal : « encourage the 40% of smokers who have never succeeded in quitting but have never tried vaping to change their habits » say they at the Guardian.

« Electronic cigarettes have become the most popular smoking cessation aid in Britain with three million regular users«  have just recalled the British health authorities in a report. « At the same time, however, 79 people continue to die from smoking each year. This is why we want tobacco specialists and health professionals to support smokers who would like to use electronic cigarettes to quit smoking."
