According to the LFB, there have been 22 smoking-related fires every week in the past five years. Last year alone, eight people died in smoking-related fires in London.
Since 2013/2014, there have been 5 fires in London linked to smoking with a rather heavy toll: 978 people have been injured and a total of 416 people have died. This is why the London Fire Brigade wants to push smokers to try electronic cigarettes if they are having difficulty quitting smoking.
Although there are four times as many smokers as vapers, there are 300 times as many fires caused by smoking compared to those caused by e-cigarettes in the last five years in the London capital. This clearly means that vaping is a real option to reduce the risk of fire. . Since 2013-2014, there have been a total of 20 fires related to electronic cigarettes.
Dan DalyDeputy Fire Safety Commissioner of the brigade, said, " Most of these deaths and injuries could have been prevented by helping them quit smoking or switch to vaping. We would prefer people not to smoke at all, but if they do, vaping is a safer option. »
He adds " There is a false rumor that the electronic cigarette poses a fire hazard, but the reality is different: They have caused only a very small number of fires and only in case the device is faulty or charged with a faulty charger. »
