UNITED KINGDOM: A vape kit offered to smokers who come to hospital emergencies

This is a real initiative to put forward in the fight against smoking that comes to us from the United Kingdom. Smokers who visit emergency departments at NHS hospitals may soon be able to get free vape kits to help them quit smoking.

SUPPORT AND AN OPPORTUNITY TO QUIT SMOKING!

The idea is! Once again, the UK health services appear to be in a real tobacco control perspective. The goal ? Offer a vape kit to smokers who go to emergency departments at NHS hospitals to see if it helps increase the number of those who quit smoking.

«We know they are much less harmful than smoking and have been shown to help smokers quit."- Pr Caitlin notley

About 1 volunteers will soon join a trial at five NHS hospitals. If successful, the University of East Anglia pilot project could be expanded to target the six million smokers in the country.

Le Dr Ian Pope, from UEA's Norwich Medical School, said: “ This provides a valuable opportunity for people to be supported to quit smoking, which will improve their chances of recovering from whatever brought them to the hospital and also prevent future illnesses.  »

Emergency services in England welcome more than 24 million people each year, around a quarter of whom are currently smokers. Interesting statistic, according to Public Health England, more than half of England's 7 million smokers want to quit, but many try to use willpower alone despite being the least effective method.

Today, around 2,7 million adults use vaping in England. According to the teacher Caitlin notley, from the Norwich Medical School of the UEA " Many people who smoke want to quit, but find it difficult to be successful in the long term.  »

A good initiative that we would like to see in most European countries, a real fight against smoking that deserves to be saluted!
